As someone with ADHD and learning difficulties, I have often found ancient scriptures and even some modern writings on spirituality and Kundalini challenging to understand.
This is why I am writing this blog post, to explain Kundalini and the Kundalini awakening process as clearly and simply as possible.
I have also received an excessive amount of energy healing (Healing by Kundalini energy), from my ex-boyfriend. So, I know the ins and outs of the Kundalini energy and the awakening process.
If you are going through a Kundalini awakening, I urge you to seek proper support. This may include working with a healthcare provider, a therapist, or a knowledgeable Kundalini guide who understands both the psychological and energetic aspects of the process.
Having accurate information and grounded support can make a significant difference, especially when the experience feels intense, confusing, or overwhelming. Alongside seeking support, it is important to do your own research and educate yourself as thoroughly as possible on this subject.
The True Purpose of The Kundalini
To truly understand the role of Kundalini energy, we first need to understand what trauma is and how it lives in the body.
From the very beginning of life, even from the embryonic stage, we absorb and store emotional experiences such as sadness, anger, fear, and anxiety. These experiences are not just held in the mind; they are stored in the body itself. Trauma layers itself in and around our fascia, onto our organs, muscles, joints, and into every single cell in our body.
It also layers itself, as think energetic veils, particularly on top of the chakras that correspond to the cause of the trauma, e.g sexual abuse covers the sacral chakra. A heartbreak or grief layers itself on the heart chakra and so on.
Each time you silence yourself, swallow your tears, suppress anger, or ignore telling your own truth, that unexpressed emotion is stored in the body. Over the years, this accumulation can form a kind of protective armour, a hard shell that disconnects you from your emotional world. This is often when numbness sets in, when feeling love becomes difficult, or when expressing emotions feels unsafe or overwhelming.
Also, various diseases can emerge, such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, chronic stress, depression, and so much more.
This is where Kundalini energy comes into play. The true purpose of Kundalini is to heal the body, mind, and emotional system. This intelligent life force moves through the body to loosen, release, and clear stored trauma on a cellular level. As the energy rises, it awakens what was once suppressed, allowing emotions that were never fully felt at the time of the trauma to surface, be processed, felt, and finally healed.
Because of this, having accurate information and, if possible, a guide during a Kundalini awakening is essential. The traumas that surface come from deeply buried and forgotten experiences that can, at times, be extremely dark and emotionally intense.
“Kundalini does not create these emotions; it reveals them so they can be met with awareness, processed, FELT, and healed, ultimately integrating you back into wholeness.”
Another purpose of the Kundalini energy is that it is also a healing energy, and it supports the body’s natural healing processes.
For example, if you are dealing with a cold, experiencing aches and pains, or feeling run-down, Kundalini-based meditations help heal and repair your body, put you in a relaxed and rested space, release all tension, and support your recovery.
While it is not a replacement for medical care, working with the energy during your period of sickness will assist the body in restoring balance and will help you recover faster.
From a spiritual perspective, the true purpose of the Kundalini Energy is that you are supposed to be able to heal your sickness completely without the assistance of medicine and hospitals.

What Is Kundalini Energy?
Kundalini energy is a cosmic or universal energy, lying dormant in every living person. It is symbolised as a coiled serpent (shakti) at the base of the spine.
Kundalini represents an inner potential, meaning our abilities and capacities, that already exist within the body and nervous system but have not yet been activated or expressed. Awakening the Kundalini is awakening your divinely “coded” abilities.
For some people, this energy may remain dormant throughout their whole life, for others, it
may awaken temporarily, or unfold more fully over time, depending on the person and their life circumstances.
What Is a Kundalini Awakening?
Kundalini awakening refers to the activation of this inner life force, the Kundalini Energy. It is a gradual unfolding that may arise through meditation, emotional healing, trauma release, major life transitions, spontaneously, or if you have a true yearning to find yourself.
Leading up to your Kundalini awakening, as you start to meditate, unresolved trauma is processed, and inner maturity develops; your nervous system is being prepared for this awakening. Essentially, this means that you become ready – mentally, emotionally, and spiritually – to honestly face past pain, become aware of how it still affects you, and consciously work through it so it can be integrated and no longer dominate your present life.
“When you face and heal past pains (trauma) you are able to see your behavioral pattern associated with the specific trauma. The awareness will help you identify the pattern and you will gradually start acting in a different (more wholesome) manner.”
“As I began working with the Kundalini energy (Shakti), it actively guided me toward the exact memories, information (videos or books) regarding the specific traumas I was working on, and provided me with deep insights into what created the specific pain or thought pattern.”
To best explain it, I was intuitively guided through internal whispers, flashes of memories and through peaked interests and resonating feelings, to books, articles and videos.
“The process unfolded over years, layer by layer, as I consciously met and integrated what surfaced. Once a significant portion of the healing had taken place, the intensity softened. The Kundalini energy (Shakti) became quieter, yet still present in the background, continuing to support integration rather than the constant release. Instead of feeling overtaken by the process, I felt like an active participant, assisting, rather than resisting, my own healing.”
Warnings about the Kundalini Awakening
There are certain things you need to be aware of when learning about something as powerful as the Kundalini energy and its Awakening.
Here are some key insights that are important to be aware of:
Premature Kundalini Awakening
The Kundalini Energy can be activated prematurely by anyone. Sometimes it happens by forcing it awake through various Yogic practices, and sometimes it can happen spontaneously through an accident or through exposure to certain hertz-based or frequency music, and through psychedelic drugs.
When the Kundalini awakens, especially to a person who is not a meditator, without gradual preparation or grounding, the experience can become overwhelming. A sudden expansion of perception, combined with unresolved trauma, may place significant strain on the nervous system and make it difficult to distinguish inner experiences from external reality.
They may suddenly become highly intuitive, with the third eye opening before they are ready, allowing them to perceive realities they are not yet prepared to experience. Because this shift does not unfold through a slow, structured process such as meditation, exposure to the spiritual realm can become disorienting.
A friend of mine overdosed on mushrooms and became stuck in this in-between state, perceiving spirit while trying to function in everyday reality. The lines blurred significantly, and he was unable to distinguish what was real from what was not. He was ultimately diagnosed by medical professionals with psychosis and borderline schizophrenia because he was seeing things that weren’t there.
Souls Blueprint
During your awakening, the blueprint of your soul begins to reveal itself, guiding you toward a deeper sense of purpose. While this can be profoundly meaningful, it can also require major life adjustments.
At times, your soul’s direction may not fully align with how you previously imagined your life or with what you thought you wanted; a clash can arise. This is why dedication, flexibility, and a willingness to realign with your path are often necessary.

Kundalini Energy Healing
As your Kundalini awakens and grows stronger within you, it activates a powerful gift: the ability to give and receive healing through Kundalini energy. This is a profound gift from the divine, and it is crucial to proceed with caution.
Be Cautious When Receiving Kundalini energy healing from others. While it can help clear blockages, it should be used sparingly and only if necessary.
Excessive use is ill-advised, as asking someone to remove energy or trauma from your body can lead to you absorbing more energy from other people, and it will weaken your natural energetic boundaries and protection (aura). This cannot be restored!
Avoid giving Kundalini Energy Healing to others unless you know how to clear yourself and your meridians afterward.
This is solely because the energetic imprint of the recipient’s illness will be transferred to the healer through the Kundalini energy.
If these energetic imprints are not removed and cleared from the meridian system, they will begin to grow and blossom into the same illness as the “client” had.
For this reason, it is essential to learn how to properly cleanse yourself and clear your energetic pathways after any healing work.
Healing Modalities That Are Non-Intrusive
All these healing practices have the same type of outcome. Some of them are better at dissolving blockages and releasing trauma, while others are better at assisting your body through healing diseases.
Reiki Healing
Reiki healing is a form of energy therapy practice that helps restore, balance and heal the body, mind, and spirit.
Reiki is performed through light touch or hands placed above the body, where the practitioner connects to the universal life energy and transfers this healing energy to the recipient. The practitioner works intuitively, meeting each person exactly where they are on their healing journey, often activating the body’s innate ability to heal itself.
Reiki also promotes deep relaxation and assists in releasing stored emotions and dissolving blockages.
Sound Bowl Healing
Sound bowl healing uses vibrational frequencies to restore harmony within the body.
The tones of the bowls penetrate deeply. As the vibrations move through you, they activate emotional releases and help dissolve energetic blockages. The overall energy starts flowing clearly through the body.
I found that the sounds and vibrations alone can have difficulties in clearing blocked meridians (by that I mean diseases), although it does activate your Kundalini Energy.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a holistic healing practice that restores balance by clearing energetic and physical blockages within the body.
Through the accurate placement of needles along specific meridian points, it induces the free flow of energy and unravels previously blocked areas (meridian pathways) within the body.
Basically, what it does is it activates the body’s natural healing response (Kundalini energy), which means it calms the nervous system by releasing stored tension and trauma, eases pain, and brings harmony to body and mind.
Crystal Healing
Crystals naturally vibrate at a high vibrational frequency.
Healing work with crystals can assist you in balancing your body, mind, and clearing your energy field by raising your vibration.
“When placed on or around the body, crystals help absorb, clear, and realign energetic blockages, supporting emotional release. Since they raise your vibration, you will feel energized, happy, and at peace.”
Positive signs of the Kundalini
Waves of Orgasmic Energy move through the body, opening the senses, energizing the system, and connecting mind, body, and spirit.
Tingling, Pleasant Sensations that ripple through the body, awakening awareness and energizing every cell.
Heightened Senses – Your senses, hearing, taste, smell, touch, and vision, become heightened, allowing you to see and feel energy around yourself and others.
Feeling a Deep Connection with all that surrounds you, experiencing unity (oneness) with every person, being, nature, and element.
Kundalini Energy and Blockages
When your Kundalini begins to move through the body’s energetic pathways (the sushumna, meridians, and the chakra system), it will encounter clusters of ‘trauma,’ also referred to as blockages, that obstruct the Kundalini energy’s path through the body. This can place significant stress on the nervous system.
A blockage is often referred to as the energetic imprint of past trauma over certain parts of your body, but most often they reside over the various chakras.
When a blockage begins to release, you will often feel dull, shaky, anxious, and experience a high level of discomfort. If the blockage is released from f.eg, the heart center, you may also feel pressure in the chest and have difficulty breathing.
In many cases, this will resolve on its own, but certain meditations can help support and accelerate the process. As the blockage is about to release fully, you may receive images or memories connected to the event that created it. Often, the release completes itself through tears, as the blockage is cried out of the body.

Physical and Spiritual Symptoms During a Kundalini Awakening
Your body is adjusting to a new way of functioning. Previously dormant energy systems throughout the body, such as the Meridian system or Nadis, are now being activated as Kundalini energy begins to flow through them.
This process can naturally come with various levels of physical discomfort or ailments.
However, as the Meridians continue to clear and your energy levels rise, many of these symptoms will gradually dissipate.
Physical Symptoms
Involuntary Body Movements – Your body positions itself into various yogic positions called kriyas.
Change in Eating Habits – Many feel drawn toward a more plant-based diet, increased detoxification, and a general preference for healthier foods. When this transition does not happen naturally, illness may sometimes act as a catalyst.
Spontaneous shaking or shuddering within the body, particularly along the spine, as the energy activates and moves upward.
The Menstrual Cycle May Change, often involving less pain or changes in flow.
Metabolic Changes can bring weight loss and other visible effects, such as accelerated hair and nail growth.
Ascension Symptoms
- You may experience bodily heaviness accompanied by physical weakness, exhaustion, and fatigue.
- Changes in sleeping pattern, insomnia, or sleeping for far longer than usual.
- Dizziness, fainting, swirling or spinning sensations
- Prickling, tingling, itching, or vibrating sensations may occur on or beneath the skin, along with numbness in the limbs. Paresthesia.
- A sense of dizziness or feeling “in the air” often means it’s time to ground and reconnect with nature.
- Hot or cold flashes, and sensations of extreme heat or extreme cold. Most often, the flashes are hot since the awakened Kundalini is an innate heat or fire rising.
- Ears ringing or popping noises
- Headaches and pressure in the head.
- Aches and pains in joints
- Nausea and vomiting (a lot of trauma is located in your stomach)
- Pain in the eyes and increased sensitivity to light. Most often, this is the third eye clearing up.
- Heart palpitations, rapid pulse, discomfort, or pain in the chest or heart. Most often, this happens when a blockage is being released.
Spiritual Symptoms
Enhanced Vision – you see reality differently, more colorful and vibrant.
Enhanced Intuition – may develop, bringing increased sensitivity to subtle signals, feelings, and inner guidance.
The Clairs Grow Stronger – Clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience, claircognizance, clairgustance, and clairalience may all or some of them grow stronger as your awareness expands.
A Deeper Understanding of life and reality around you, the matrix starts falling apart.
Synchronicities – Numbers and signs start becoming apparent
Oneness – A sense of connection with the universe and with nature
Third Eye Visions – can arise, involving inner images, flashes of light, colors, or symbolic scenes perceived beyond the physical senses.
Past Life Visions – may unfold, bringing flashes of memory, emotions, or experiences that do not seem to originate from your current life.
Emotional and psychological symptoms
A Deeper Level of understanding emerges, along with a more nonjudgmental way of seeing the world. You become more compassionate towards yourself and towards other people. You understand what struggle means and can therefore show a deeper understanding of others as well.
Anything that is No Longer in alignment with your true path is likely to fall away. This can feel lonely at times because of the loss of your previous friends and certain family members. Stay devoted to the path, and eventually your new life will fall into place. Old habits and addictions all come up for deep review and are often entirely expelled from your life.
Emotions like anger, fear, anxiety, and sadness will, from time to time, come up to the surface for you to deal with and process. Memories of events from our past, triggers of past traumas that you either forgot about or believed you had moved past. This will be ongoing until you have cleared a major part of your stored trauma. After that, it may show up in random spurts, going from extreme euphoria to depression, crying, and outbursts of anger. Emotional states may shift quickly, from feeling on top of the world to being carried into deep emotional waves.
Chakras and Kundalini

As the awakening unfolds, the Kundalini energy basically travels through you, clearing out the meridians and each chakra on both sides, front and back, which most people do not realize.
With each meditation session, old trauma is gradually released, along with energies you may have absorbed throughout the day.
The deeper you clear stored trauma, the closer you come to unlocking your “dormant” abilities encoded within each of your chakras. This is why working with and clearing the chakras is such an important part of the healing process.
For example, if you have difficulties speaking up, start by practicing standing your ground and allowing your voice to be heard.
As you continue to heal, old habitual patterns that have never really served you begin to release naturally. You may find yourself responding in new ways, less from old conditioning and more from inner strength and newly achieved wholeness.
Over time, you begin to act and express yourself from a stronger and more empowered place.
The Connection Between Kundalini and the Chakras
Kundalini energy is closely linked to the chakra system, a kind of map of the “psycho-spiritual” centers as described in yogic texts. As Kundalini awakens, it is said to rise through the central energy channel (sushumna nadi), activating each chakra along the spine.
Here are some short textbook examples of what each chakra stands for:
Root Chakra (Muladhara) Red: safety, stability, survival
Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana) Orange: emotions, creativity, relationships, sexuality
Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura)Yellow: willpower, identity, self-esteem
Heart Chakra (Anahata) Green: compassion, connection, emotional balance
Throat Chakra (Vishuddha) Blue: communication, truth, expression
Third Eye Chakra (Ajna) Indigo: insight, intuition, clarity
Crown Chakra (Sahasrara) White: unity, transcendence, spiritual insight
Rather than “opening” chakras forcefully, which can lead to psychosis or mental breakdowns. Traditional teachings emphasize gradual integration; unresolved emotional and psychological trauma will surface from each chakra and can only then be processed as awareness deepens.
“During my spiritual awakening, my higher self guided me back to the Daily Sadhana Chakra Meditation my mother had taught me. As I practiced daily, one day I experienced feeling like something cracking open over my head, then in my chest, as if I were encased in glass and the meditation broke through it.”
“Soon after, I began to feel energy moving through my body, shifting between euphoric states and deep, dark depressive emotions. This process later unfolded as the Dark Night of the Soul. The more I meditated, the heavier I felt, yet I sensed I was clearing deep emotional residue stored within me, so I continued, withdrawing almost entirely from the world.”
“Gradually, the darkness lifted, life felt brighter, and a new way of seeing opened up, replacing the depressive lens I had lived with for nearly thirty years.”

Meditations for Kundalini Awakening and For Removing Blockages
Down below, you will find some meditations I have practiced over the years. Only try them if you genuinely feel drawn to them; never force anything. If this path is meant for you, your higher self will naturally guide you to it, and you will stick with it. If it is not meant for you in this lifetime, you will likely fall off the practice.
A Kundalini awakening can turn your life upside down and trigger deep emotional wounds that need your attention and are ready to be healed. Often, this happens without you making a conscious choice. If an emotional wound appears, it can mean you are emotionally ready to deal with it. Move slowly in this process, listen to your inner guidance, and, if possible, seek support from an experienced Kundalini coach.
I started my meditation journey with this meditation. The important aspect of this meditation is to visualize connecting your energetic roots to the ground (earth) and to practice it daily to create a habit out of it. Unfortunately, I do not have it on audio. But you can read about it here:
Once I became accustomed to this meditation practice and my Kundalini had fully awakened, I began using another meditation that is a “Bija Mantra” regularly. This meditation comes with a specific set of instructions. You can hear the instructions in the audio.
I want to emphasize how important it is to clear both the front and back of each chakra. After a specific chakra is chanted, visualize the front of the chakra spinning clockwise while the back spins counterclockwise. The only exceptions are the root chakra and the crown chakra, which both spin clockwise. This takes time and practice, so be patient with yourself. It is completely okay to focus only on the front chakras at first until you get the hang of it.

Here is a Brief Summary of The 8 Stages Of Kundalini Awakening
Below is a simple breakdown of the eight stages Kundalini Awakening will bring forth and what each stage represents.
1. Trauma and Turbulence – This stage is often marked by physical and emotional symptoms, sometimes referred to as ascension symptoms. You may experience aches and pains, fever-like sensations, fatigue, or nervous system stress as stored trauma begins to surface and release.
2. Falling Apart – A dissatisfaction with life begins to set in. You may feel that you want more from life, and things you once enjoyed no longer bring fulfillment. Superficial interests start to fall away, relationships may change, and dietary shifts often occur naturally.
3. Healing – After the breakdown comes renewal. You may feel regenerated and slowly regain strength. This stage often includes a desire for solitude or “hermit mode,” where rest, reflection, and self-care become essential for integration.
4. Unlearning – Old beliefs, habits, and conditioned ways of thinking begin to dissolve. You start discarding parts of what you once believed to be true and see life from a new perspective. This is the stage of breaking free from your old self.
5. Synchronicity – Life begins to feel guided. You meet the right people at the right time, and events seem to line up effortlessly. Meaningful coincidences become more frequent and noticeable.
6. Connection with the Divine – A deeper spiritual connection develops through your Kundalini meditation. Combined with prayer and fasting, your relationship with the divine or higher consciousness becomes more personal and fulfilling.
7. Liberation – A sense of inner peace and freedom emerges. You feel less attached to fear, control, and external validation. Life feels lighter and more spacious.
8. Realization – You come to a deep understanding that life is more than what the physical eyes can see. There is a shift in identity, from the ego and personal story to a broader awareness of who you truly are.
After moving through stages one to five of the Kundalini awakening process, much of the “inner clutter” has been cleared, and a more balanced way of living begins to take shape. This marks the beginning of the next phase.
Kundalini and Manifesting
As Kundalini energy clears trauma and raises your vibration, manifestation tends to happen much faster. With this comes responsibility. Your thoughts, intentions, and actions need to become more conscious and purified. I will explore this in more depth in my next blog post.
Conclusion
Kundalini energy is genuinely not something to take lightly. From everything I have experienced and learned, its true purpose is the healing of your body, mind, emotions, and spirit. When approached with awareness and patience, it can guide you back to your true self, giving you clarity and a deeper connection with life itself.
Educating yourself, researching the Kundalini Energy, practicing grounding, and/or finding a well-informed tutor for accurate guidance will help you immensely throughout this process.
Healing past trauma with the Kundalini energy is somewhat of a slow unfolding, and it does not rush; neither should you. When the time is right, the path will unfold naturally. In divine timing!
